Manasara (English spelling)

...The settlements and housing styles we see today were perfected during this period. The model for this was a Hindu book on urban planning and architecture called Mānasāra (c. 7th century). Mānasāra idealizes the layout of urban buildings as a kind of mandala, which represents the Hindu view of the universe in the form of geometric patterns, and its basis is the principle of layout based on azimuth axes.
