Overtaking sight distance - Oikoshishikyo

Strictly speaking, it is defined as the distance at which the top of an object 10 cm high on the centerline of a lane or roadway can be seen from a height of 1.2 m above the centerline of that lane. When detecting an obstacle or a car on the road surface and braking to stop (braking sight distance) on a sharp curve or underpass, or when overtaking a slow-moving car (overtaking sight distance), it is necessary to be able to see a sufficiently safe distance ahead, and sight distance is an important factor that determines the geometric structure of the road. The required sight distance is determined by the driver's reaction behavior, the friction between the tires and the road surface, and the speed of the moving vehicle and the oncoming vehicle.
