A political party in Indonesia. Founded on May 23, 1920. Outlawed by the Netherlands in 1932. After independence, it resumed its activities as a legal party and expanded its influence to become one of the four major parties in the general election of 1955. In the local elections of 1957, it became the largest party with 7.6 million votes, which triggered a deepening conflict with the military. It further expanded its influence by working closely with President Sukarno, who intended to suppress the expansion of the military's power, and in April 1962, it was said that it had 3 million party members and 8.5 million sympathizers. From 1964, it carried out radical activities based on the Chinese Communist Party's line, intensifying the conflict with the military. In addition, after the failure of the September 30th Incident in 1965, a coup by young officers aiming for further left-leaning, the military counterattacked and outlawed the party, killing 300,000 party members, including Chairman Aysit, in the same year, and by January 1967, it is said that 90% of the party organization had been destroyed. After the transition to the Suharto regime, it was outlawed and in 1986 the government announced a cleanup.

インドネシアの政党。 1920年5月 23日創立。 32年オランダにより非合法化。独立後合法政党として活動を再開，55年の総選挙では四大政党の一角を占めるまで勢力を拡大。 57年の地方選挙では 760万票を取って第1党となり，軍部との対立を深めるきっかけとなった。国軍の勢力拡大を抑える意図をもったスカルノ大統領に密着して勢力をさらに広げ，62年4月当時党員数 300万，同調者 850万といわれた。 64年から中国共産党の路線に基づく先鋭な活動を展開して軍との対立を激化させた。加えて 65年の九・三〇事件で一層の左傾化を目指す青年将校団のクーデターが失敗したことにより，軍は反撃に転じて同党を非合法化し，同年中にアイジット議長を含む党員 30万人を殺害，67年1月までに同党組織の 90%は壊滅したといわれる。スハルト体制への移行後，非合法化され 86年に政府は一掃を発表した。
