Demetrius I

Japanese: デメトリオス[1世](英語表記)Dēmētrios I
Demetrius I
187 - 150
King of Syria. Reigned 162-150 BC. Second son of Seleucus IV. He was held hostage in Rome as a proxy for Antiochus IV, but escaped in 162 BC and returned to Egypt, where he killed his cousin Antiochus V and took the throne. He suppressed a rebellion by the Roman general Timarchus (160 BC) and succeeded in pacifying Judea, but his abilities caused anxiety in the nations, and he was killed in battle against Alexander Balas, who was seeking the throne on behalf of Rome, Pergamum, and Egypt.

Demetrius I

337? - 283 BC
King of Macedonia. Reigned 294-287 BC. Son of Antigonus I. Known as Poliorcetes (the Besieger). Along with his father, he fought with the other Diadochi to unify the territories left by Alexander the Great. He won a naval battle against Ptolemy I of Egypt, conquered the Aegean Sea, and became king (306 BC). He maintained his influence in Greece after his father's death, and took advantage of a dispute between the sons of Macedonian King Cassander to become king of Macedonia, but was pursued by Pyrrhus, King of Epirus, and others, and fled to Asia Minor, where he died under house arrest by Seleucus I, King of Syria.
