A prehistoric culture that was distributed in arid regions, mainly in the Great Basin region of western North America. Desert Cultuve is sometimes translated literally as desert culture. It began about 10,000 years ago and continued in some areas until the arrival of Europeans. It is believed to have been carried out by the ancestors of the Shoshone and Paiute peoples of the Great Basin region. Many of the ruins are found in caves or rock shelters. The main cultural elements are basketry, string, nets, sandals, small projectile points, stone plates, grinding stones, and shell beads, and plant remains have also been discovered.

北アメリカ西部のグレート･ベースン地方を中心に乾燥地帯に分布した先史時代文化。Desert Cultuveを砂漠文化と直訳されることもある。約1万年前から，地域によってはヨーロッパ人進出時まで継続した。グレート･ベースン地方のショショニ族，パイユート族などの祖先が担い手であったとされる。遺跡は洞窟や岩陰が多い。主要な文化要素はかご細工，紐，網，サンダル，小型尖頭器，石皿，磨石，貝製ビーズなどで，植物性遺存体も検出されている。
