When her mother and her lover Aegisthos murdered her father after he returned victorious from the Trojan War, she fled her young brother Orestes out of the country, and when he returned home with his cousin Pylades as an adult, she joined forces with him to avenge their father. She is well known for her roles in tragedies such as Aeschylus's Oresteia trilogy and Sophocles' and Euripides' Electra.
