Suifenhe

Japanese: 綏芬河 - すいふんが

A county-level city on the Sino-Russian border in northeastern China's Heilongjiang Province. Population 35,000 (1994). End of the Harbin-Suijin Railway (Harbin-Suifanhe). Separated from Dongning County in 1975 and incorporated as a city. A newly industrialized city with factories for textiles, liquor, building materials, food, etc. Formerly a border station on the railway leading to Vladivostok via the East China Railway, no international trains run through it now. However, since perestroika, border trade with Russia has become active at the local level. The Suifen River originates in Panling in northeastern Jilin Province, flows north into Heilongjiang Province, joins the Little Suifen River at Daohe, flows east north of Dongning County, enters Russian territory, and enters the Sea of Japan.

中国東北部，黒竜江省東端の中ロ国境にある県級市。人口3万5000(1994)。浜綏鉄道(ハルビン～綏芬河)の終点。1975年東寧県から分離，市制施行。新興工業都市で紡織，酒造，建築材料，食品等の工場がある。もと東支鉄道経由ウラジオストクに通じる鉄道の国境駅であるが，今は国際列車は通じない。ただペレストロイカ以後，ロシア側との国境貿易が人民レベルで盛んになった。河川の綏芬河は吉林省東北部の盤嶺に源を発し，北流して黒竜江省に入り，道河で小綏芬河と合し，東寧県城の北を東流してロシア領に入り，日本海に入る。
