Diodorus of Tarsus (English spelling)

A theologian of the Antiochene School around ?-390. Bishop of Tarsus (from 378). He attacked the teachings of Arius and was praised as a defender of the Nicene orthodox faith (381, First Council of Constantinople). He is also known for his dispute with the Roman Emperor Julian. As a theologian, he represented the position of the Antiochene School, which placed importance on the literal interpretation of the Bible. However, after his death, he was accused of Nestorian heresy by Cyril of Alexandria. [Tatsuya Moriyasu]

アンティオキア学派の神学者。タルソスTarsos主教(378より)。アリウスの教説を攻撃し，ニカエア派の正統信仰の擁護者とたたえられた(381，第1コンスタンティノープル公会議)。ローマ皇帝ユリアヌスとの論争も知られている。神学者としては，聖書の逐語的解釈を重視するアンティオキア学派の立場を代表した。しかし没後，アレクサンドリアのキュリロスによってネストリウス的異端のかどで非難された。【森安達也】
