Russian icon painter, c.1440-c.1502. In the second half of the 15th century, he developed the Moscow school of painting following A. Rublev. The only work with a clear date and signature is a large mural (1500-01) that he created with his son Feodosii (c.1470-early 16th century) in the Assumption Cathedral of the Ferapont Monastery near the city of Kirillov in Vologda Oblast. In addition, three icons in the Tretyakov Gallery - "The Crucifixion" (c.1500) and "The Life of Metropolitan Alexis" and "The Life of Metropolitan Peter" - are also believed to be his work based on their style.

ロシアのイコン画家。15世紀の後半に，A.ルブリョフの後をうけてモスクワ派絵画を発展させた。明確な年記と署名に裏づけられる唯一の作品として，ボログダ州のキリーロフ市付近のフェラポント修道院のウスペンスキー大聖堂に息子フェオドーシーFeodosii(1470ころ～16世紀初め)と制作した壁画の大作(1500‐01)がある。そのほか，トレチヤコフ美術館蔵の3点のイコン――《キリストの磔刑》(1500ころ)および〈府主教アレクセイ伝〉〈府主教ピョートル伝〉――も，その作風から，彼の手になるものとされている。
