This area was originally called Aomi-sho, and there are two Aomi-jinja shrines listed in the Shikinaisha. It is said that when Emperor Kanmu dispersed the territories of the two Kamo shrines in Yamashiro Province to various provinces and enshrined the spirits of the deities, they were also enshrined here.
