...Therefore, federations are formed that encompass areas larger than the individual cooperatives (usually prefectures), and national federations are formed that encompass the federations of each prefecture. Prefectural federations include the Keizairen (Economic Agricultural Cooperative Federation), which is primarily involved in sales and purchasing, Shinren (Credit Agricultural Cooperative Federation), which handles credit business, Kyosairen (Mutual Aid Agricultural Cooperative Federation), which handles mutual aid business, and Kenchu (Central Union of Agricultural Cooperatives), which handles guidance business, educational activities, and agricultural policy activities. There are also federations of specialized agricultural cooperatives.
