Octave Mirbeau

Japanese: ミルボー - みるぼー(英語表記)Octave Mirbeau
Octave Mirbeau

French novelist, playwright, and journalist. Born in Trevieres. He participated in the editing of Le Figaro , and as a theater critic, he was instrumental in discovering Maeterlinck's symbolist plays. He turned from a supporter of the royalists and Catholics to the left, and wrote works that used naturalistic techniques to express intense contempt for the bourgeoisie and satire of social ills. His novels include Calvert (1886), Father Jules (1888), The Garden of Torment (1899), and The Diary of a Maid (1900). His plays include The Wicked Leader (1897), which depicts a confrontation between capitalists and workers, and Les affaires sont les affaires (1903), in which he created a vivid caricature of a businessman through the character of the protagonist Isidore Rucha, and are masterpieces that are still performed today.
