…the Parthian dynasty. Its ancestor was Arshak, a chieftain of the Scythian nomad tribe Parnoi. He ascended to the throne in 247 BC at Asaq in northeastern Iran, and around 238 BC he conquered Parthia, establishing the foundations of his kingdom.
