Ceratium tripos

Japanese: ツノオビムシ(英語表記)Ceratium tripos
Ceratium tripos
Kingdom Protista, phylum Alveolata, family Acanthopodidae. The shell is anchor-shaped, 0.1-0.3 mm long, and 0.04-0.08 mm wide. The anterior corner of the upper shell is straight and tilts slightly to the left when viewed from the ventral side. The two posterior corners of the lower shell open to the left and right and point upward, but the left corner is slightly shorter than the right corner. This is the most common warm-water species found in Japanese waters, and its form changes depending on the environment; for example, when it moves from warm waters to cold waters, the anterior horns naturally break off to reduce its buoyancy.
