Mount Girāku

A transliteration of the Sanskrit Gṛdhrakūṭa. The name of a mountain said to have been located northeast of Rajagriha, the capital of the ancient Indian kingdom of Magadha. It is famous as the place where Shakyamuni preached. It is translated as Vulture Peak because it is said to resemble an eagle or that many eagles live there. サンスクリット語 Gṛdhrakūṭaの音写。古代インドのマガダ国の首都であった王舎城の北東にあったといわれる山の名。釈尊が説法した場所として有名。霊鷲山 (りょうじゅせん) と訳されるのは，その山の形が鷲に似ているとも，鷲が多くすむからともいわれるためである。
