A transliteration of the Sanskrit Gṛdhrakūṭa. The name of a mountain said to have been located northeast of Rajagriha, the capital of the ancient Indian kingdom of Magadha. It is famous as the place where Shakyamuni preached. It is translated as Vulture Peak because it is said to resemble an eagle or that many eagles live there.
