Guayas [river] - Guayas

...The coastal region, which accounts for one-quarter of the country's land area, is a fertile plain about 30 to 150 km wide, with hills of about 700 m above sea level scattered throughout. The rivers that flow from the Andes to the Pacific Ocean are the Esmeraldas River in the north and the Guayas River in the south, the latter of which has a fertile delta and the country's largest commercial city, Guayaquil, near its mouth. The Oriental and Occidental mountain ranges of the Andes run through the center of the country, connecting in various places to form about 10 intermountain basins.
