Japanese History - Nihon Isshi

A history book covering the early Heian period. It was compiled by Kamo no Sukeyuki in 1692 (Genroku 5). It is a general chronological history from 792 (Enryaku 11) under Emperor Kanmu to 833 (Tencho 10) under Emperor Junna. It is written in classical Chinese and consists of 40 volumes and one volume of Koi. Of the Six National Histories, Nihon Koki was lost early on and no longer exists, so to supplement it, contemporary historical materials were collected from Nihon Kiryaku and other documents to complete the book. A draft copy of this book is kept at Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto, and the version published in 1724 (Kyoho 9) is generally in circulation.

平安時代初期を扱った歴史書。鴨祐之(かものすけゆき)が1692年（元禄5）に編集した。桓武(かんむ)天皇の792年（延暦11）から淳和(じゅんな)天皇の833年（天長10）までの編年体の通史である。漢文。40巻、考異一巻からなる。六国史(りっこくし)のうち『日本後紀』が早くから散逸して伝わらないので、これを補うため『日本紀略』その他の文献から当代の史料を拾い集めて完成した。本書の草稿本は京都の上賀茂(かみがも)神社にあり、一般には1724年（享保9）刊本が流布した。
