A marine animal of the phylum Tentacula, order Chelipedomorpha, and family Hylobenidae. It forms nodular colonies up to 3cm in diameter. It attaches to seaweed such as kombu, sujime, and ginkgo, but sometimes grows long and forked. The chambers that make up the colony are arranged irregularly, and the surface feels rough to the touch due to the projections on the collars of the chambers. When alive, it is orange, but when dead it turns into a white calcareous lump. It is very commonly found on the coasts of Japan.
