Kuze [town] - habit

Japanese: 久世[町] - くせ

An old town in Maniwa County in the upper reaches of the Asahi River in northern Okayama Prefecture. Kuze, the town in the center, was once a post station on the Izumo Highway and a junction with the Hoki Highway. It is now a key transportation hub connecting Okayama and Kurayoshi, and is served by the Kishin Line. It is the commercial center of the western Mimasaka region, and has long been a place where cattle and horse markets are held. Rice is the mainstay of the town, but livestock and vegetable cultivation are also carried out. In March 2005, it merged with Kitafusa Town in Kamifusa County, and Katsuyama Town, Ochiai Town, Yubara Town, Mikawa Village, Kawakami Village, Yatsuka Village, and Nakawa Village in Maniwa County to become a city. 75.12 ^km2 . Population 11,611 (2003).

岡山県北部，旭川の上流域の真庭郡の旧町。中心の久世はかつて出雲街道の宿駅で伯耆(ほうき)街道の分岐点。今は岡山と倉吉を結ぶ交通要地で，姫新(きしん)線が通じる。美作(みまさか)地方西部の商業中心をなし，古くから牛・馬市が開かれている。米作を主体として，畜産，野菜栽培などを行う。2005年３月上房郡北房町，真庭郡勝山町，落合町，湯原町，美甘村，川上村，八束村，中和村と合併し市制，真庭市となる。75.12km²。１万1611人（2003）。
