Japanese: コベリン（英語表記）covelline

Also called copper orchid. Chemical composition: CuS. It is an indigo-blue mineral with well-developed cleavage, but crystals visible to the naked eye are rare. It shows strong pleochroism and anisotropy under an ore microscope. Hexagonal crystal system. Mohs hardness: 1.5-2, specific gravity: 4.6-4.8. Cu66%. It sometimes shows iridescent color. It often forms in secondary copper-enriched zones, covering the surface of other copper sulfide minerals or filling cracks. When the surface of bornite turns purple or the surface of chalcopyrite turns blue-green, it is often only the surface that changes color, and no particular mineral formation is visible even under a microscope.

銅ランともいう。化学組成CuS。藍青色でへき開の発達した鉱物であるが，肉眼で認められる結晶はまれ。鉱石顕微鏡下で強い多色性と異方性を示す。六方晶系。モース硬度1.5～2，比重4.6～4.8。Cu66％。ときに玉虫色を示す。銅の二次富化帯に，他の銅の硫化鉱物の表面をおおって，または割れ目を埋めて生成していることが多い。斑銅鉱の表面が紫色になったり，黄銅鉱の表面が青緑色になっている場合，表面だけの変色で，顕微鏡下でも格別の鉱物の生成の認められないことも多い。
