Tsukuba Questions and Answers - Tsukuba Mondo

Tsukuba Questions and Answers - Tsukuba Mondo

A treatise on renga (linked verse) from the Northern and Southern Courts period, written by Nijō Yoshimoto. It was completed after 1357 (Shōhei 12, Enbun 2) and before 1372 (Bunchū 1, Oan 5). The story is told in the form of an old man who has come from Tsukuba in Hitachi Province asking questions about the way of renga, to which the old man responds. The content can be called an overview of renga, but while clarifying the essence, characteristics, and role of renga, it also focuses on explaining that renga is a literary work with a proper origin, just like waka poetry, and can be seen as a theoretical treatise declaring salvation and the establishment of the way of renga by Yoshimoto.
