Yumotoura and the central settlement, Katsumotoura, are fishing villages that were granted fishing rights during the Edo period. Katsumotoura in particular has exclusive rights to the Shichiri-Sone area, a good fishing ground for yellowtail, and is a popular fishing area for yellowtail and squid. In the past, fishing grounds were ravaged by large groups of dolphins, but in 1990, a dolphin park was opened using a natural inlet, and wild dolphins are kept there.
