Insect-pollinated flower - Chinese quince

Japanese:
Insect-pollinated flower - Chinese quince

This refers to flowers in which pollen is carried to the stigma of the pistil by insects; some are transmitted by specific insects and some are not.

Insect-pollinated flowers have beautiful petals, calyx, and bracts to attract insects, and many have well-developed nectar glands and give off a strong fragrance. Pollen is small in quantity and easily adheres to insects with mucus and projections, and the flower structure is well suited to the shape of the insect. For example, some orchids have complex patterns on their petals that resemble female insects, which attract males, and when a bumblebee lands on a salvia flower, the stamens swing about and deposit pollen on the bee's back.
