On the other hand, Mie Prefecture has a strong connection with the Chubu region, as it is included in the scope of the Chubu Region Development Act, and is sometimes lumped together with Aichi, Gifu, and Shizuoka prefectures in the Chubu region as part of the Tokai region, and is therefore often excluded from the Kinki region. The term Kansai has a wide range of uses, but in the narrow sense it often refers to the area excluding Mie Prefecture from the Kinki region.
[Nature and Life]
From a geological perspective, the Median Tectonic Line, which runs east-west through southwest Japan, passes through the area, roughly along the line between the Kinokawa River and the Kushida River, dividing the area into an outer belt on the south side and an inner belt on the north side.
