…Parthian art refers to the art that flourished in Western Asia under the Arsacid dynasty (c. 247 BC - 226 AD), but it was not necessarily produced by the Parthians. It is broadly divided into early and late periods. The former (3rd century BC to 1st century BC) was heavily influenced by Greek art. In the latter (1st century to 3rd century), Greek characteristics receded, and in their place the tastes and aesthetic sense of Iranian peoples such as the Achaemenid Empire and Parthia, and indigenous peoples (e.g. the Kingdom of Elymais and the caravan city of Hatra) became prominent. …
