Tanba cloth

Japanese:
Tanba cloth
This is a loosely woven striped cotton fabric made with hand-spun cotton yarn and silk threads mixed in with the filaments. It was woven in Saji, Aogaki-cho, Hikami-gun, Hyogo Prefecture, and was called Saji Cotton, but from the end of the Taisho period to the beginning of the Showa period, folk artists renamed it Tamba-fu. All fabrics are dyed using vegetable dyes, with stripes and checkered patterns consisting mainly of brown, indigo, green, gray, and yellow. The elegance of the matching of the shape and color of the threads is well-known, and it is popular for bedding, cushions, and folk crafts. It fell into disuse around the end of the Meiji period due to the influence of spun yarn textiles, but it was restored around 1955 and production continues, mainly through the preservation society.
