The Sasaki clan, the guardian of Omi, incorporated into their family a branch of the Sasaki Kiyama clan, who had been indigenous to the area before the Sasaki clan entered the country, and formed the Omi samurai group. The Iba clan was founded by Sanetaka, the second son of Sasaki Yukizane, who was a descendant of the Sasaki Kiyama clan and was known as Toyoura no Kanja. From the early period of the Northern and Southern Courts to the Sengoku period, they played an active role in both military and administrative affairs as senior vassals of the Rokkaku clan.
