1789‐1859 A Polish-born Russian journalist and author. In his early career, he participated in the editing of the anthology Polar Star and took an anti-establishment stance, but after the Decembrist revolt he became a pro-establishment journalist. He published many periodicals, including the newspaper The Northern Bees (1825-59), and in these anthologies and newspapers he attacked Pushkin, Gogol, Lermontov, and others, and also served as an informant for the secret police. As an author, he wrote historical novels and novels of manners and manners, such as Ivan Busygin (1829), which was a continuation of the physiological reportage of the 1840s, but all of them were melodramatic and moralistic, and lacked literary merit.
