〘Noun〙 (dandyism, dandysm)① Men's fashion or spirit of fashion. A fashionable ethos that was popular among young gentlemen in England in the early 19th century. Its influence spread to France, and even developed into the literary anti-philistism of Byron, Musset, Baudelaire, and others. *Mikatenu yume (1910) ( by Nagai Kafu ) , vol. 2 "On dandyism, which seems to have originated in England at the end of the 18th century." ② Generally refers to an attitude that seeks knowledge, culture, elegance, and refinement. *My Language Training (1949) (by Watanabe Kazuo), "He demonstrated his dandyism by saying that grammar is a worthless thing."
