Dan Ding - Dan Ding (English spelling) Dain

Date of birth and death unknown. A Sanskrit fantasy novelist and poetic scholar from around the 7th century in India. Biography also unknown. His prose Sanskrit fantasy novel "Dashakumaracharita" (The Tale of the Ten Princes) displayed his extraordinary literary talent and technique, and his book on poetics and rhetoric "Kabyadarsha" (The Mirror of Poetry) laid the foundation for the development of Sanskrit poetics. "The Mirror of Poetry" discusses the differences in style, provides a detailed explanation of various rhetorical and prosodic techniques, and describes the characteristics and shortcomings of poetic works.

生没年不詳。7世紀ごろのインドのサンスクリット伝奇小説作家、詩論学者。伝記も不詳。散文のサンスクリット伝奇小説『ダシャクマーラチャリタ』（十王子物語）により非凡な文才と技巧を示し、また詩論、修辞学書『カービヤーダルシャ』（詩作の鏡）によってサンスクリット詩学発達の基礎を開いた。『詩作の鏡』は文体の区別を論じ、修辞、韻律上の各種技巧を詳説し、詩的作品の特徴、欠点なども述べている。
