The administrative capital of North East Lincolnshire, eastern England, United Kingdom. It is located about 25 km southeast of Kingston upon Hull (Hull), on the south bank of the Humber River near its mouth, which flows into the North Sea. It has been an important seaport since the Middle Ages, and the port temporarily declined due to silt deposits, but after a diversion channel was made in 1800, it developed rapidly due to its favorable location for fishing in the North Sea and other places. After 1880, the fishing grounds were expanded to the Greenland Sea and the North Sea with the use of steam trawlers. Furthermore, with the population increase in England, the construction of railways, and the cooling of fish with ice, it became a fishing base that supplied a large amount of fresh fish to all of England. In the early 1980s, it became the number one fishing port in the UK in terms of fish landings, surpassing Hull, and after the introduction of modern freezing and smoking methods, it became a thriving exporter of frozen fish and other products. It is also an important commercial port, exporting chemical products, fertilizers, steel, etc., and importing food, timber, iron ore, etc. Population: 87,574 (2001).

イギリス，イングランド東部，ノースイーストリンカーンシャーの行政府所在地。キングストンアポンハル（ハル）の南東約 25km，北海に流入するハンバー川の河口に近い南岸に位置する。中世以来重要な海港で，港はシルトの堆積により一時衰微したが，1800年に流入河川の分水路がつくられると，北海その他の出漁に好位置を占めていたため，急速に発展。1880年以降は蒸気トロール船の使用で漁場がグリーンランド海および北海にまで広がった。さらにイングランドの人口増加，鉄道建設，氷による魚の保冷に伴い，イングランド全域に鮮魚を大量に供給する漁業基地となった。1980年代初めには魚の水揚げ量でハルをしのぐイギリス第1の漁港となり，近代的な冷凍・薫製方法の導入後は冷凍魚などの輸出も盛ん。商業港としても重要で，化学製品，肥料，鉄鋼などを輸出し，食品，木材，鉄鉱石などを輸入する。人口 8万7574（2001）。
