[1] [noun] A god who lures and guides people to death. *The Joruri Shinju-ba is from Koori no Sakujitsu (1709), "And now we are here, tempted by the god of death, the fleetingness of life." [2] Rakugo. It is said to have been adapted by San'yutei Encho in the 1880s from the Italian opera Kuripisno the Shoemaker. En'yū's "Honour no Taiko " is an adaptation of the original. It depicts the absurd and funny story of a poor man who meets the god of death in his attempt to kill himself, but ends up using the god instead. The ending is a sudden punchline.
