A unit of sedimentary rocks transported and deposited by turbidity currents, composed of gravel, sand, silt and clay particles, with siliceous, calcareous and argillaceous compositions. It exhibits graded stratification, and the unit usually grades from base to top, and shows, in whole or in part, the following sequence of sedimentary structures: (a) massive, (b) lower lamination, (c) ripple mark lamination, (d) upper lamination, (e) fine-grained mudstone.
