Turbidite (English spelling)

Japanese: タービダイト（英語表記）turbidite

A unit of sedimentary rocks transported and deposited by turbidity currents, composed of gravel, sand, silt and clay particles, with siliceous, calcareous and argillaceous compositions. It exhibits graded stratification, and the unit usually grades from base to top, and shows, in whole or in part, the following sequence of sedimentary structures: (a) massive, (b) lower lamination, (c) ripple mark lamination, (d) upper lamination, (e) fine-grained mudstone. Sole marks are common [Kuenen: 1957, Dzulynski & Walton: 1965].

混濁流によって運ばれ堆積してできた堆積岩の単位で，礫，砂，シルト，粘土粒子で構成され，珪酸質，石灰質，粘土質の組成を含んでいる．級化成層を示し，普通はこの単位は底部から頂上部に漸移し，全部または一部で，(a) 塊状の部分，(b) 下部平行葉理部，(c) リップル・マーク葉理部，(d) 上部平行葉理部，(e) 細粒泥質部，の堆積構造の順序を示している．ソール・マークは普通に見られる［Kuenen : 1957, Dzulynski & Walton : 1965］．
