...However, while the largest organization, the National Council of Regional Women's Organizations (Chifuren), still exists without being able to completely shake off the wartime nature of women's organizations' collusion with the government, from the 1960s onwards, the women's movement began to be increasingly affiliated with political parties, with the Japan Women's Conference affiliated with the Socialist Party, the New Japan Women's Association affiliated with the Communist Party, the Democratic Women's Association affiliated with the Democratic Socialist Party, and the Housewives' Alliance affiliated with the Komeito Party being formed, and political parties also began to cast a shadow over the Central Meeting of Working Women (held annually since 1956 for the purpose of interaction and learning among female workers, led by the Sohyo Association of Workers' Union and the Japan Federation of Women's Organizations).
[After Women's Liberation Movement]
In the late 1960s, the women's liberation movement began in the United States and quickly spread around the world. Inspired by sexism in the black movement and student movement, a new women's movement was born because women who returned home during the stable period after World War II were not satisfied with their lives, and because, despite the increase in the number of women receiving higher education, they were not given the opportunity to utilize their abilities.
