A town in Kamiina County, central Nagano Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Tenryu River and is at the northern end of the Ina Basin. The central settlement developed as a transportation hub where the Chuo Line and the Iida Line split off. It produces rice, apples, and pears, and is also attracting factories. 169.20 km2 .
