Takanogawa

A river that flows southwest through Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City and joins the Kamo River. It originates in the mountains near the border with Shiga Prefecture, passes through Ohara, Yase, and other areas, and empties into the Kamo River at Demachiyanagi. It is about 17 kilometers long. The Wakasa Highway (National Route 367) connects the Takano River and the valley of the Azumi River at the western foot of Mt. Hira, and in the past, the Ohara Gate was one of the "Seven Gates of Kyoto." The water quality is suitable for dyeing, and Yuzen dyeing was once carried out downstream.

京都市左京区を南西流して鴨(かも)川に合流する川。滋賀県境付近の山地に発し、大原、八瀬(やせ)などを経て出町柳(でまちやなぎ)で鴨川に注ぐ。全長約17キロメートル。高野川と比良(ひら)山西麓(ろく)の安曇(あど)川の渓谷を結んで若狭(わかさ)街道（国道367号）が通じ、古くは「京の七口(ななくち)」の一つの大原口が設けられていた。水質が染色に適し、かつては下流で友禅(ゆうぜん)流しが行われていた。
