Takanosu [Hot Spring] - Takanosu

Japanese: 鷹ノ巣[温泉] - たかのす

This hot spring is located in Sekikawa Village, Iwafune County, in northern Niigata Prefecture. It is located in the gorge of the meandering Arakawa River, and together with Takase Onsen and Yuzawa Onsen, it forms part of the Arakawa Gorge Hot Springs Village. It is an old hot spring along the Yonezawa Kaido road that is said to have been discovered in 1819 (Bunsei 2). The spring water is a saline spring with a temperature of 50-55°C. There is a beautiful view of the gorge from Takanosuyama Observatory on the opposite bank. It is 5km from Echigo-Shimonoseki Station on the JR Yonesaka Line, or a 15-minute bus ride away.
