Jacques-Pierre Brissot

Japanese: ブリソ - ぶりそ(英語表記)Jacques-Pierre Brissot
Jacques-Pierre Brissot
1754‐93
French politician. Born in a small village near Chartres as the son of a restaurant owner. He was active as a writer even before the French Revolution. He gained popularity with the publication of the newspaper Le Patriote Française in 1789, and was elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1791 and to the National Convention in 1792. He drafted a petition calling for the King's abdication in the Champ de Mars incident in 1791, and from the end of 1791 to the beginning of 1792, he advocated war against Austria and Prussia, plunging France into war. His position was to defend the interests of the moderate republican bourgeoisie who believed in a liberal economy, and together with Rolland and others, he formed a group known at the time as the Brissots, later known as the Girondists, and led the republican movement.
