A type of puppet theater and kabuki. A general term for works that use the Taiheiki as a subject. Many of them deal with incidents related to figures on the Southern Court, such as Prince Daito, Masashige Kusunoki, and Yoshisada Nitta. In the field of Joruri, major popular pieces among works including Chikamatsu's works such as "Yoshino Miyako Onnakusunoki" performed at the Osaka Takemoto-za in 1710 (Hoei 7) and "Sagami Nyudo Senbiki no Inu" performed at the Takemoto-za before the autumn of 1714 (Shotoku 4), include "Otonomiya Asahi no Yoroi" performed at the Takemoto-za in February 1723 (Kyoho 8), "Kusunoki Mukashi Banashi" performed at the Takemoto-za in January 1846 (Enkyo 3), "Ranjatai Nitta Keizu" performed at the Takemoto-za in February 1865 (Meiwa 2), and "Shinrei Yaguchi no Watashi" performed at the Edo Gaiki-za in January 1870. 人形浄瑠璃,歌舞伎の一系統。《太平記》に題材を求めた作品の総称。特に大塔宮,楠木正成,新田義貞ら南朝方の人物に関連のある事件を取り上げたものが多い。浄瑠璃では,1710年(宝永7)大坂竹本座の《吉野都女楠(よしののみやこおんなくすのき)》,14年(正徳4)秋以前竹本座の《相模入道千匹犬(さがみにゆうどうせんびきのいぬ)》などといった近松の作品を初めとする諸作のうち主要な人気曲としては,23年(享保8)2月竹本座の《大塔宮曦鎧(おおとうのみやあさひのよろい)》,46年(延享3)正月竹本座の《楠昔噺》,65年(明和2)2月竹本座の《蘭奢待新田系図(らんじやたいにつたけいず)》,70年正月江戸外記座の《神霊矢口渡(しんれいやぐちのわたし)》などがあげられよう。
