This is a record of civil court decisions compiled by the Hyojosho of the Edo Shogunate. It contains 45 volumes of legal precedents from 1702 to 1867 in chronological order, but they were all destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. Kyoto University now has one copy each from 1720 to 1714, and Tokyo University has one copy each from 1778 to 1882. The only other records are fragments found in the Tokugawa Kinryo Kogoshu. The Hyojosho was a court that heard civil cases between people of different territories, such as between the Tenryo and Daimyo territories, or between Daimyo territories and Hatamoto territories, so there are many legal precedents regarding access to forests, wilderness, water, and fishing grounds.
