1821‐83 Polish poet and painter. He spent almost his entire life in exile abroad, and died in a nursing home in Paris. He independently pioneered a new world of lyric poetry, regardless of the trends of the times. Many of his excellent works are based on artists and historical figures. Criticism of civilization based on an ethical view based on Catholicism is an important element in all of his creative activities. He was not recognized during his lifetime, and few of his works were published. He was highly praised in the 20th century, and two volumes of his Collected Works (1966) were published in Poland.
