Polish poet and painter. He spent almost his entire life in exile abroad, and died in a nursing home in Paris. He independently pioneered a new world of lyric poetry, regardless of the trends of the times. Many of his excellent works are based on artists and historical figures. Criticism of civilization based on an ethical view based on Catholicism is an important element in all of his creative activities. He was not recognized during his lifetime, and few of his works were published. He was highly praised in the 20th century, and two volumes of his Collected Works (1966) were published in Poland.

ポーランドの詩人，画家。ほとんど一生を国外の流浪に費やし，パリの養老院で死去。時代の潮流にかかわらず抒情詩の新世界を独自に開拓した。芸術家や歴史上の人物に取材した作品に優れたものが多い。創造活動全般にわたって，カトリシズムを基本とする倫理観による文明批判が重要な要素となっている。生前は認められず，出版されたものも少ない。20世紀に入り極めて高く評価され，ポーランドで《著作集》2巻(1966)が刊行されている。
