It produces large, single orange flowers 7 to 9 cm in diameter with a brownish purple snake-eye pattern in the center, which appear at the tip of the stem in March to May. It is mainly cultivated outdoors in warm areas for cut flowers. V. decurens Less. is slightly shorter, with golden flowers about 6 cm in diameter, single dark flowers in the center. It grows well under warm, dry conditions. It is sown in September on the bed and transplanted within the year. It can also be sown in a greenhouse in early spring.
