Trachyandesite

It is an alkaline volcanic rock with a chemical composition between andesite and trachyte, and contains relatively large amounts of potassium. It is also called latite. It consists of roughly equal amounts of potassium feldspar and plagioclase (andesine-oligoclase) phenocrysts, and a groundmass of fine, parallel-arranged strips of feldspar. It may contain olivine, augite, and alkali feldspar as phenocrysts. The groundmass consists of alkali feldspar and small amounts of plagioclase, magnetite, ilmenite, biotite, olivine, titanium-rich augite, aegirine augite, and glass.

安山岩と粗面岩の中間の化学組成をもつ、アルカリ岩系列の火山岩で、比較的カリウムを多く含む。レータイトlatiteともいう。ほぼ等量のカリ長石と斜長石（中性長石（アンデシン）―灰曹(かいそう)長石（オリゴクレース））の斑晶(はんしょう)と、細かい短冊状の長石がほぼ平行に配列した石基からなる。斑晶として橄欖(かんらん)石、普通輝石（オージャイト）、アルカリ長石を含むことがある。石基はアルカリ長石と少量の斜長石、磁鉄鉱、チタン鉄鉱、黒雲母(くろうんも)、橄欖石、チタンに富む普通輝石、エジリン輝石質普通輝石（エジリンオージャイト）、ガラスなどからなる。
