Mancunium

…Population: 433,000 (1995). In Roman times it was called Mancunium. It is located in a strategic natural location, bordered by the Pennines to the east, the hills of Rossendale Forest to the north, and the Cheshire Plain to the south and west. The Irwell River, a tributary of the Mersey River, as well as the Medlock River and the Irk River, all join the city.
