Chikamasa Ikoma
Year of death: February 13, 1603 (March 25, 1603)
Year of birth: 1526
A military commander in the Sengoku and early Edo periods. Nicknamed Jinsuke, his official title was Gagaku no Kami. His name was Masanari, Kinsei, Chikanori, and Chikanori, before finally taking the name Chikamasa. He was the son of Ikoma Chikaju of Tsuchida, Mino Province. His mother was from the Sone clan of Mino. In 1566, he served Oda Nobunaga, and later followed Toyotomi Hideyoshi, serving in Hideyoshi's major battles, such as the Siege of Saika, the Battle of Yamazaki, and the Battle of Shizugatake, and distinguished himself in battle. During this time, he was given 23,000 koku of Takashima in Omi Province and 60,000 koku of Ako in Harima Province, before being given the province of Sanuki and building Takamatsu Castle. In the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, he fought on the Western side out of Hideyoshi's kindness, and later retired to Makio in Yamashiro Province. However, he was pardoned because his son Kazumasa was on the Eastern side.
