Mount Ikoma

Japanese: 生駒山 - いこまやま
Mount Ikoma

The main peak of the Ikoma Mountains, located on the border between Nara and Osaka Prefectures. It is the center of Kongo-Ikoma-Kisen Quasi-National Park. It is 642 meters above sea level. It is a dome-shaped hill made of hard diorite that has withstood erosion. The summit is flat, the western slope on the Osaka Prefecture side is a steep cliff, and the eastern slope on the Nara Prefecture side is a gentle slope that descends to Ikomaya Valley. It has long been known as Ikoma-san (Nihon Shoki) and Ikoma-san (Manyoshu). Since 1678 (Enpo 6), when Hozan-ji Temple was built under the Hannya Cave on the eastern side, it has attracted the faith of the common people. There is an amusement park and TV towers for various stations on the summit, and cable cars run from the Shigi-Ikoma Skyline, which branches off from the Hanna Road, and from Torii-mae Station near Kinki Nippon Railway's Ikoma Station.
