Shogenji Temple

Japanese: 正眼寺 - しょうげんじ

A Rinzai sect Myoshinji temple in Minokamo city, Gifu prefecture. Its mountain name is Myohozan. Its founder was Sekizan Egen. After studying Zen under Shuho Myocho and attaining enlightenment, Sekizan continued his studies here and lived in seclusion until he was invited by Emperor Hanazono to be the founder of Myoshinji temple. The Sekizan site later fell into disrepair, but was restored by Suio in the early modern period, and flourished under the protection of the feudal lord Sato Yoshitsugu, with five sub-temples in the mid-modern period. At the end of the early modern period, Settan Shoboku opened a specialized training center. It was called "Ibuka no Oni Sorin" (Imuka Demon Forest) and was known as a training center for strict Zen.

岐阜県美濃加茂市にある臨済宗妙心寺派の寺。山号は妙法山。開山は関山慧玄。宗峰妙超に参禅修行して悟りを得た関山は，その後当地でさらに修行し，花園上皇によって妙心寺開山に招請されるまで隠棲していた。この関山由緒地はその後荒廃し，近世初期に錐翁（すいおう）が復興を行い，領主佐藤吉次の保護で興隆，近世中期には塔頭（たつちゆう）5庵を数えた。近世末に雪潭紹璞（せつたんしようぼく）が専門道場を開設した。〈伊深の鬼叢林〉と称し，厳しい禅の道場として知られる。
