〘Noun〙 A prison building for female prisoners in the Edo period. It is commonly called a women's room. In the Edo Kodenmacho prison, the west entrance was used, but when there were many prisoners, the east entrance (the island room) was also used. ※Secret Records of Prisons (mid-17th century) About the Imprisonment of Women in the Prison "When more than 200 people were imprisoned, they could not all fit in the women's room." 〘名〙 江戸時代、女囚を収容した獄舎。俗に女部屋という。江戸小伝馬町牢屋では、西口の揚屋があてられ、入牢者の多いときには東口の揚屋（遠島部屋）も用いられた。※牢獄秘録（１７Ｃ中）女牢入牢之事「弐百人余り之入牢之時は、女牢に入り切らず」
