Mitsumune Iga

A samurai from the early Kamakura period. Son of Iga no Kami Fujiwara Tomomitsu. Brother of Iga Mitsusue, the governor of Kyoto at the time of the outbreak of the Jokyu War (1221). His younger sister was the second wife of Hojo Yoshitoki. He was highly valued due to his connection with the Hojo clan, and in 1219 (Jokyu 1) he became the regent of the government. In 1224 (Gennin 1), he was found guilty of a plot to depose the 4th Shogun Yoritsune, to have his younger sister's husband Fujiwara Sanemasa become Shogun, and his younger sister's son Hojo Masamura become Regent. This plot was exposed, and his land was confiscated, and he was exiled to Shinano (the Iga clan incident). He became a monk and took the name Kosai. He was pardoned the following year in 1225, and in 1245 (Kangen 3) he became a member of the Hyojoshu Council, holding important positions in the shogunate until his death.

鎌倉初期の武士。伊賀守(かみ)藤原朝光(ともみつ)の子。承久(じょうきゅう)の乱（1221）勃発(ぼっぱつ)当時の京都守護伊賀光季(みつすえ)の弟。妹は北条義時(よしとき)の後妻。北条氏との関係から重用され、1219年（承久1）政所執事(まんどころしつじ)となった。1224年（元仁1）、4代将軍頼経(よりつね)を廃し、妹の女婿藤原実雅(さねまさ)を将軍に、妹の子北条政村(まさむら)を執権にたてようとした陰謀が露顕して所領を没収され、信濃(しなの)に流された（伊賀氏の変）。出家して光西(こうさい)と称し、翌1225年赦(ゆる)され、1245年（寛元3）評定衆(ひょうじょうしゅう)になり、死去するまで幕府の要職にあった。
