Slide - slide (English spelling)

Slide - slide (English spelling)

A positive film is displayed for a large audience in classrooms and conference rooms. The film sizes include 35 mm, 4 x 4 cm, 6 x 6 cm, and 6 x 7 cm, and are mounted on a glass plate or a paper frame. Long-roll slides are 35 mm film itself, and are used while still wound on a reel.

Projectors used to project slides were called magic lanterns in the past, but today they are called slide projectors, and come in a wide variety, from simple small models to high-end models with automatic frame advance and audio synchronization. Projectors that can be remote-controlled to advance the frames, adjust the focus, and link with a tape recorder allow teachers and instructors to use both the screen and the blackboard for more effective explanations.

Among audiovisual teaching materials, slides are widely used, particularly in social education facilities such as audiovisual centers and libraries, as well as in school education and home education. However, with the spread of digital cameras capable of high-resolution photography, personal computers, and large projectors, the use of slides, which cannot be used without a blackout curtain, is gradually being pushed aside. Furthermore, with the improvement in the quality of computer software for presentations, their actual use is increasing, and care should be taken when referring to "slides," which can also mean "one screen" of such software.
